Gayton Farm Road, Gayton, Heswall, Wirral, CH60

Guide Price Of £3,950,000

A handsome manor house listed Grade II* standing in a delightful mature garden setting with views to
the Dee Estuary.

Gayton Hall is situated on the edge of Gayton Village just beyond Heswall on the Wirral Peninsula overlooking the Dee Estuary against the backdrop of the Welsh Hills. Occupying a very private position in spectacular grounds, Gayton Hall is undoubtedly one of the finest houses in the Wirral and is best described as a country house in a village setting benefiting from a rural aspect albeit within walking distance of a serviced village.

The history of Gayton Hall is well recorded and has been long associated with the Glegg family as was the township of Gayton for almost 600 years. Originally a timber framed building, the existing property is believed to have been constructed during the mid-17th century which is consistent with the date of 1663 carved in the stone lintel over the doorway to the dovecote in the grounds of Gayton Hall bearing the initials GEK being those of Edward Glegg and his wife Katherine Delves of Doddington.

The Gleggs have mention in the War of the Roses (1436-1485) and during the English Civil War (1640-1651) William Glegg, in his evidence to the Court of Sequestrator for Wirral in 1649, tells how he was seized at Gayton Hall by a troop, taken to Chester and confined in the castle.
