Lutyens Close is an
attractive courtyard development of just three elegant
wings created from the careful conversion and
restoration of this historic late 19th century property,
reputedly designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, and six
delightful mews-style houses.

Built in 1893 for Susan Muir-Makenzie, a close friend of
celebrated garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll, The Red
House, Effingham is beleived to be an early example of
the work of Sir Edward Lutyens. Although much of the
original garden has been lost, the fact that this is one
of the earliest projects on which Lutyens collaborated
with Jerkyll has earned The Red House a place in
architectural history.
Latchmere's sensitive
refurbishment and conversion work, using authentic and
matching materials, has resulted not only in the
restoration of the original property but also in the
separation of the new wing, which has been redesigned
and partly rebuilt to create six mews style houses
around a central courtyard. The resulting nine new homes
provide a rich blend of architectural style and
contemporary interior of a high standard.
