The Norman Castle, a stately home and fortified castle, has been the home of the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors since 1067, whilst the Cathedral of our Lady and St. Philip Howard was dedicated in 1873.
Leisure facilities in and around the town include the Arundel Lido, with lovely views of the Castle, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, on the banks of the River Arun, surrounded by ancient woodland, with an excellent restaurant with panoramic viewing lounge, boardwalks and wildlife safari boat, Amberley Working Museum dedicated to industrial heritage, and of course the South Downs, now a National Park, with some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country, miles of chalk footpaths, and a plethora of flora and fauna, most notably wild orchids.
