A remarkable Soho home skilfully arranged over four levels combining elegance, flamboyance and construction of the highest quality.
Despite being in the middle of one of London’s most vibrant areas, the owners of this converted property have created a stylish and tranquil home, which pays tribute to a building full of history and personality. It has a feeling akin to a New York loft. Oak flooring throughout gives a sense of calm uniformity and flow as the stairs lead up from the ground-floor hallway to the sitting room, then up again to the kitchen and dining room and an entertaining nook with a TV. The floor above houses the master bedroom and bathroom, the former with its own sitting area which has access to a balcony which faces the glamorous Ham Yard Hotel. Clement steel windows with soundproof double-glazing have been installed and matching doors lead to the balcony planted with a high box hedge to ensure total privacy. The roof terrace, planted with yuccas, grasses and ferns in huge pots is accessed via a new oak staircase, which incorporates a bookcase. The interior panelling and cupboards, in brushed oak, were custom-made by joiners from Bohemian Works and the lighting was designed with help from SKK Lighting in Soho to create atmosphere amplified with big industrial lights hanging from the ceiling. The decoration is elegant and restrained with flamboyant flourishes.
