Passport to Cheshire

Almost a decade in the making, Wolstenholme Elmy Way finally opened in April 2021, connecting many Cheshire villages with swift access to the UK’s motorway network, the A34 and South Manchester and making it easier and quicker for thousands of Cheshire residents to travel around the region and beyond.

Named after Congleton-born Elizabeth Clarke Wolstenholme Elmy – votes for women campaigner and educationalist – the Congleton Bypass or Congleton link road connects Congleton’s A534 Sandbach Road with the A536 Macclesfield Road and it’s hoped it will help to alleviate the persistent and lengthy traffic problems in Congleton.

Issues with traffic have been cited as reasons that many businesses were thinking of leaving Congleton and for a lack of new investment in the town and the new link road will go some way to attracting new businesses to the town, greening the environment through better air quality, as well as providing more space for cyclists and pedestrians

Residents in villages close to the bypass will now have quick links in and out of the area, and we’re already noticing an uptick in prospective purchasers looking for properties for sale in villages such as Somerford Booths, Brereton, Swettenham and Marton.

Meadowside, Smallwood, Sandbach is a beautifully presented, modern five bedroom family house, nestled on the edge of an exclusive development, with approximately 3.7 acres of gardens and paddock land. Guide price £1,400,000. View details.

These villages have always been attractive prospects for a family, with access to the rolling Cheshire countryside and a private, idyllic location, but add to the mix the prospect of being able to travel much more quickly to work out of town, and their allure only increases.

Park Mill, Mill Lane, Brereton is an historic Grade II* Listed three bedroom former mill with an outstanding interior, sitting in landscaped gardens. Guide price £575,000. View details

Our director, Crispin Harris, has noticed a change in buyers and the locations they are including in their property searches: “There’s definitely an understanding that large swathes of Cheshire that were previously perceived as just a little too out of the way are now firmly on the radar of buyers coming into our Alderley Edge branch. While their tucked away locations make them ideal for those looking for a quieter pace of life, the new bypass has certainly given buyers food for thought and more options when it comes to spending their money on property in Cheshire.”
