Highest level of property transactions recorded in September to date by HMRC

Nick Leeming, Chairman of Jackson-Stops, comments on today’s HMRC property transaction statistics: "As anticipated, today's transaction data reflects the drive for homebuyers to complete ahead of the end of the SDLT holiday in October. This, coupled with historic levels of demand in the market, has resulted in the highest level of transactions recorded in September to date by HMRC.

"The significant increase in transactions from August is also evidence of homebuyers taking action and making good on aspirations nurtured over a summer of eased restrictions and increased socialising. Autumn is traditionally a more active period, but it is clear that deeper societal changes and lifestyle adjustments are spurring on a buyer with intent beyond a financial saving.

"Heading in to the final few months of the year, the end of the SDLT holiday will reduce the need to act at breakneck speed. Despite this, demand remains acute in highly countryside and coastal locations, and this is even more noticeable as stock has become depleted in desirable locations following the frenetic market activity of the last 18 months.

"With an average of 25 buyers for each property on our books, demand will continue to outstrip supply until the end of the year, especially as buyers capitalise on the offerings of England's superb suburban, countryside and coastal locations. For those seeking a sale to facilitate their next move, now is a unique opportunity to secure an excellent price."
