Jackson-Stops, the established national estate agency with a reputation for handling historic houses and Listed buildings, has become a corporate benefactor of the Lutyens Trust.

The relationship reflects Jackson-Stops’ long-standing work with architecturally significant homes and its commitment to ensuring the sale, ownership and stewardship of historic properties should be approached with care, knowledge and respect for their cultural importance.

The Lutyens Trust is a charity dedicated to protecting and promoting the achievement of the great British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, perhaps best known for his series of beautiful country houses, often with a Gertrude Jekyll garden. The Trust’s intervention and influence has helped protect many Lutyens buildings from harm. The Trust has a vibrant community of more than 600 members and arranges specialist visits to private houses and buildings not usually open to the public, as well as an annual study week at the Lutyens designed Goddards in Surrey. The Trust’s website holds a wealth of information on the architect including an extensive catalogue of his works, which is due to be launched soon.

Jackson-Stops has been selling country houses since 1910, now with a national network of 40 offices including central London. Over the years Jackson-Stops has worked with some of the foremost charities, preservation trusts and private individuals who are passionate about preserving and restoring older buildings. The agency has recently handled the sale of three Lutyens houses in Devon and Surrey, with guide prices ranging from £775k to £1.3m, reflecting its experience in advising on architecturally distinguished and historically important homes.

Charles Hind, Chairman of the Lutyens Trust comments, “We are delighted to welcome Jackson-Stops as a corporate benefactor of the Trust. Since 1984, the Trust has worked to protect and promote Sir Edwin Lutyens’ architectural legacy, from buildings, gardens and objects designed by Lutyens, including gardens designed in partnership with Gertrude Jekyll.

“Jackson-Stops has a well known track record in advising on historic and architecturally significant houses, and we greatly appreciate their support. The Trust is dependent on memberships and donations to enable it to carry out its day-to-day work of protecting Lutyens’ works and deepening public understanding of their importance.”

Nick Leeming, Chairman of Jackson-Stops comments, “It is our pleasure to support the important work of the Lutyens Trust. Britain’s architectural heritage is one of the nation’s greatest assets and Sir Edwin Lutyens gave us some of our most beautiful country houses and public buildings. As advisors to owners and buyers of historic homes, we understand the importance of recognising not only their value as places to live, but also their wider architectural and culture significance.”
