Remarkable Somerset property sales

At the beginning of 2021, we take a look back at some of the remarkable Somerset property sales we managed in 2020.

The Old Rectory, Elworthy, Lydeard St. Lawrence, Taunton, Somerset. Guide price £1,350,000.

Brian Bishop, director at Jackson-Stops Taunton, commented: "This beautiful old Regency Rectory had been offered for sale for some time with varying amounts of land and adjacent Lodge House. A London buyer was found in October 2019, but with enquires, surveys and hurdles along the way, contracts were finally exchanged in March this year. All were very pleased and relieved when contracts were finally exchanged."

Our next remarkable sale of 2020 was Ellicombe Manor, near Dunster, Somerset

A beautifully preserved sixteenth century manor house, Listed Grade II with four letting cottages all within enchanting gardens & grounds, Ellicombe Manor was another country house sale that demanded excellent local knowledge, the use of our national network of branches, and a wonderful relationship between the owners and our staff.

As Brian Bishop remarks, "A particularly handsome and historic house, Ellicombe Manor had been run successfully as a holiday lettings business for many years and attracted a great deal of interest. A good relationship was enjoyed by our team in Taunton and the owners. 

"The house found its ideal buyers with a young couple from the Home Counties, both having Somerset connections, who were thrilled to buy this house and to continue running the holiday letting business."

Luxborough Farm, Aisholt, Bridgwater, Somerset

A superb country property, beautifully restored and extended in an enchanting and peaceful setting within the Quantock Hills. In all about 38.92 acres.

Brian commented: "Occupying a lovely country setting within the Quantock Hills, this beautifully presented period farmhouse with modern additions was coveted by a couple returning from Southeast Asia.  

"From the initial viewing of the property, contracts have finally exchanged and completion took place at the beginning of December 2020. With a hire car collected from London Heathrow Airport and having broken down on route the new owners eventually got to the property at 8.00 pm in the dark, where they were greeted by a member of our team to let them in, show them round and set them on their way."

Poole House, Nether Stowey is our next remarkable sale of 2020

A striking Grade II Listed village house, Poole House is a property of distinction.

Jackson-Stops Taunton director, Brian Bishop, notes :"A fine period village house, with many connections to the poets Coleridge and Wordsworth, Poole House required  the right buyer. With great marketing, buyers were found, who fell in love with the property, its style and accommodation, and it was sold very close to its guide price."

Our final remarkable sale of 2020 is Brook Farm

Located in Buckland St Mary, Brook Farm is an outstanding contemporary home set in wonderful grounds at the foot of the Blackdowns Hills AONB.
 
Brian Bishop recalls: "We sold Brook Farm to the present owners seven years ago. The owners decided it was time to move back to the Home Counties and place the house on the market in May of 2020.  

"After a short time a buyer was found from West Sussex and initially presented a cash chain free sale. On further thought the buyer decided he would try and sell his own house and entered into a chain of eight properties!  

"From the point of issuing the Memorandum of Sale, daily telephone calls and conversations have been necessary to get this property sold and the new owners will be moving in the middle of January 2021."
