WHY I LOVE…Mayfair and St James

Our Mayfair Associate Director of Lettings, Camilla Foulger, tells us why she loves this wonderful enclave of central London.

Which area do you love?
Mayfair & St James.

Tell us why
Mayfair is a prestigious and affluent area with a great deal of historical value and is nestled between two of the best Royal parks in London, Green Park and Hyde Park; it is also home to two famous garden squares. The concentration of 5* Hotels, Michelin Star restaurants and luxury retailers makes the area a real draw for those seeking luxury living and easy access to all the finest things in life.

Tell us an interesting, lesser known fact about the area
I’ve got two! Our very own Queen is perhaps one of the most famous people to be born in Mayfair. Queen Elizabeth II was born at 2.40am on 21 April 1926, at 17 Bruton Street. Mayfair’s prestigious status has even been commemorated by being the most expensive property square on the London Monopoly board.

Who else loves the area?
The average age of tenants in this area has been getting younger over the last few years. We have a lot of young professionals who like the easy commute to Canary Wharf and international postgraduates looking to set up enterprises locally. We also have a lot of high net worth individuals from around the globe looking for an apartment to use infrequently when they visit London; this will be in addition to their primary residence overseas and can offer greater flexibility than using a hotel. Over the last 12 months we have seen a notable increase in tenants looking for short stay apartments, in particular luxury, fully-serviced apartments that are able to offer stays as short as a few weeks.

Best place to grab a bite to eat nearby?
Shepherd Market houses some great independent restaurants and cafes, the vast range of cuisines are reflective of the residents and visitors that are attracted to the area from around the globe. Some examples are Le Boudin Blanc, which is a well-known French restaurant; Al Hamra, a popular Lebanese, and Kitty Fishers, an English fish Restaurant. For more opulent fine dining Mayfair offers the largest concentration of Michelin Starred restaurants in London.

What sort of properties are available in the area?
We have a variety of properties ranging from one-bedroom apartments to houses and luxury 5* serviced apartments available on Short Stays. Here are just a few examples:

How are property prices performing in the area at the moment?
Prices have been stabilising over the last 12 months as demand is catching up with supply. Renting as opposed to buying in Mayfair is increasingly a popular option for those looking for flexibility and quality living without the commitment of buying.
