Jackson-Stops acts on behalf of the owners of historic houses of all shapes and sizes. We appreciate that serious buyers prefer a ‘go to’ website specialising in period properties and buildings of architectural or historic interest - generally referred to as Listed Buildings. The historic houses section of our website brings together the very best of the country’s built heritage.

Pedigree history

Over the years, we have been involved in buying and selling historic houses and working for some of the foremost charities, preservation trusts and private individuals who are passionate about preserving and restoring older buildings.

We were the first to submit a Capital Transfer Tax (now Inheritance Tax) exemption report on behalf of clients in the 1970s. We acted for the Trustees of the Calke Abbey Estate, have worked for the National Trust, Historic England and the owners of William Morris’s Red House. For over 40 years we’ve operated alongside the Spitalfields Historic Buildings Trust in their work to preserve and restore Georgian houses in Spitalfields as well as other historic buildings across the country.

Historic houses – expert advice

Our first Guide to Listed Building Legislation was produced in 1992, setting out our stall as industry experts and we continue to assist owners of Listed Buildings by providing practical, unbiased advice.

Research, alongside an understanding of the history and architecture of an historic building, remains at the heart of our work. We are committed to preserving England’s great historic buildings.
