SITUATION
The village of Burnham Thorpe is famous for being the birthplace of Nelson and when All Saints church was restored in 1890, the Admiralty donated wood from the HMS Victory to the church, from which the lectern, altar and rood screen were made. A bust of Nelson and the tombs of his parents are in the chancel. The village also benefits from a recently refurbished pub named after him.
The nearby extremely popular village of Burnham Market, often thought of as the loveliest in Norfolk has a range of privately owned and run shops including a delicatessen, wine merchants, butchers and boutiques. Amenities include a primary school, post office, doctor's surgery, dentist, garage, hard tennis courts, a fine parish church and a range of hostelries including "The Hoste" - a renowned 4-star hotel and other well-established restaurants sitting comfortably alongside exciting, new venues such as Socius and No. Twenty9, this a lively hub right on your doorstep.
A short distance to the south, Creake Abbey is home to a stunning Café and Food Hall, which is open 7 days a week, fantastic shops and studios plus an award-winning farmers’ market together with the ruins of an Augustinian abbey founded in 1206.
The Burnhams comprise six villages situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty boasting miles of sandy beaches and saltmarshes full of birds and wildlife crisscrossed by creeks and harbours. To the west are also the popular coastal villages of Brancaster and Thornham offering sailing, the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club and RSPB Reserve and to the east the fine beaches at Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea help to make this the perfect spot to take advantage of all this beautiful part of the world has to offer
