Dreaming of Summer

As we are at last nearing the end of what seems to have been a particularly long wet winter, we can begin to think about putting away those Wellington boots and winter coats and dare to dream of the warm, sunny days of summer...

Being a born and bred Devonian I love this beautiful county any time of the year, however there is something about the magic of summer that makes Devon even more spectacular. In my opinion, Devon offers the best of everything. So, if you are considering buying a property here, whether a main residence or a second home, how do you decide where you want to be - especially as there are so many beautiful places to choose from?

Perhaps the rugged beauty of the Dartmoor National Park with its rolling scenery and high granite tors appeals to your inner adventurer. What better way to spend a summer’s day than picnicking on the open moorland, leisurely cooling off walk-weary toes in one of the many crystal clear streams or rivers?

The picturesque villages of Widecombe-on-the-Moor, Lustleigh and Chagford are the perfect places to enjoy a cream tea and if you fancy a music festival there is always Chagstock. One would be hard placed to find a festival with such a stunning backdrop as this.

Alternatively, maybe the draw of the sea and a desire to catch a wave or two sounds more enticing! If this is the case, the long sandy beaches of Putsborough and Croyde in North Devon are a surfer’s paradise. Or you could travel south to the South Hams where you can put your nautical skills to use and sail in some of the best sailing waters in Europe. The stunning coastal towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth offer everything a keen sailor could wish for culminating in the world renowned Dartmouth Royal Regatta at the end of August.
