Increased number of tenants tempt buy-to-let landlords to buy more property

Despite the muted property market picture in the UK now, confidence in the buy-to-let sector appears to be rising. According to Property Industry Eye, in an article quoting the latest Landbay landlord survey, 41 per cent of buy-to-let landlords planned to purchase more property in the next year in a direct response to a marked increase in tenants looking for rental properties. 54 per cent of landlords with 11-20 properties are planning to increase their portfolios of rental properties, with 40 per cent of landlords with more than 20 properties doing the same.

Quoted in Property Industry Eye, Paul Brett, Landbay’s managing director, intermediaries said: “Once again high tenant demand serves as a key driver for landlords to consider expanding their property portfolio. And while house prices have remained more robust than some landlords previously predicted, high rental yields are clearly still tempting some to explore the market.

“Rather than the buy-to-let market languishing and lots of landlords exiting as some commentators have suggested, this data shows landlords are still seizing the opportunities available.”
