Jackson-Stops fully onboard with new Trading Standards material information rules for agents

New guidance has been issued for agents with the aim of improving material information disclosure in property listings.

The NTSELAT (National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team) has added required information to its new rules, which will see vendors being advised to employ the services of a conveyancer at an early stage to make sure that information passed to estate agents is validated. This will apply to information such as restrictive covenants or boundaries to ensure any issues can be dealt with early on in the process.

Anyone looking to market a home - either for sale or rent - will be required to include new data on portals, with their submission flagged if they do not provide this new information.

The NTSELAT has produced some short guides for agents, sellers and landlords, and buyers and tenants - Material Information in Property Listings – Guide for Buyers and Tenants - view the latter here.

Alastair Hancock, regional director Jackson-Stops South East, commented: "The new information requested will give buyers and renters additional, important information in order for them to make an informed choice about progressing with a sale or rental. Jackson-Stops branches are fully onboard with the new rules and hope that it will work to speed up the process of buying or selling a home".
