The art of working from home

Many of us have had to quickly adapt to working from home - from corners of the sitting room, bedrooms and sheds, we've had to speedily adjust and find a space to call our own. We've noticed that buyers are increasingly requesting information on whether properties can accommodate working from home, be that a dedicated extra room, existing study, space to house a workshop or office in the garden.

ONS survey in March found that around 1.7 million people reported working from home before March 2020, with around 4 million working from home a week before the survey was undertaken (24 March 2020). Fast forward to April 2020 and 46.6% of people in employment did some work at home and of those, 86% did so as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. 

There's been a definite shift towards working from home, which shows little sign of slowing in the coming months, perhaps years. Those working within sectors such as information, communication, professional, scientific, technical, finance and insurance are provided with more opportunities to work from home, which correlates with occupations that require higher qualifications, and many in those professions are seriously considering their working environments long term.
