Situated between two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) the historic Georgian town of Blandford Forum remains a significant local business centre. As well as one of the largest regional breweries, Blandford Forum is home to the Royal Signals Regiment, an annual Georgian Fayre in May and the Dorset Steam Fair, which is held a few miles from the town and is one of the biggest events of its type in Europe. 11. Why move to Blandford Forum and the surrounding area?
Blandford Forum is located about 20 miles north of the coast and 2 ½ hours west of London in an area of beautiful countryside between Cranborne Chase and the Blackmore Vale, much of which is designated as National Landscape. People move to this part of Dorset for peace and quiet, scenic countryside and pretty villages, but Blandford itself is an historic market town with one of the finest Georgian churches outside London. Outdoor activities play a big part in Dorset life, walking, riding and cycling in the county is excellent notably along the renowned Jurassic coastline, through the Purbecks and Wareham Forest, across Cranborne Chase and in the Blackmore Vale. Sailing and water sports figure highly and there are a number of competitive golf courses including Remedy Oak, Rushmore and The Purbeck course.

Schools are also a big draw, and as well as some excellent village primary schools and state secondary schools in Blandford and Wimborne, the south of area falls into the catchment for Poole and Parkstone Grammar schools and independent schools within a 10 mile radius of Blandford include Bryanston, Canford, Milton Abbey and Clayesmore as well as Castle Court, Dumpton, Hanford and Sandroyd prep schools.

12. How far is Blandford Forum from London?
Blandford Forum is about a 2 ½ hour drive west of London via the M3, A303, A30 and A354. Railway stations within a ½ hour radius of Blandford offer trains to London Waterloo, and include Tisbury (from 2 hrs), Salisbury (from 1 hr 40mins), Poole ½ hourly (from 2 hours). Bournemouth and Southampton airports are also close by along with the cross channel ferry terminal in Poole.
